AVT Audio Visual Telecommunications Corporation (AVT) was incorporated by Garry Robb as a Research and Development company and has evolved into an Intellectual Property company. Since the late 1990’s, the company has been creating and developing technologies relating to video processing and video transport for cellular and wireline networks. Most recently AVT has been focused on its video resiliency technology, for which it was granted three US patents, the latest on July 4, 2014. During the patenting process the company learned that the IETF had adopted its Dual-Streaming Technology for video transport.AVT’s Core Technologies
Low Bit-Rate Audio Coder
From 1996 to 1999 AVT developed a very low bit-rate audio encoder capable of generating excellent voice quality at 1.2 kbit per second. This algorithm is well suited to wireless links that have low signal power or low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). This algorithm can be licensed from AVT.
Video compression algorithms were developed over the following years. Based on its patented algorithm, the company developed firmware to realize a low-power solution. An Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for performing MPEG 4 Video Compression was developed by AVT and ETRI (Electronics Telecommunications Research Institute) of South Korea, resulting in unique hardware-based circuitry with very low power consumption. This unique VHDL core utilises an ARM processor and is available for licensing.
Truly-Live Dual-Streaming Video Transport
This technology was developed to enable high-quality, low-latency real-time live video over existing wireless and wireline networks. This R&D effort resulted in three US patents for AVT’s Dual-Streaming Video with Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology. It has recently been adopted by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This is a landmark development as the industry has now adopted the new standard in their roll out plans for 2016!
Patents and Trademarks
AVT is a proven, innovative technology company that strives to obtain patents for the technology it develops. Patents are valuable commodities, particularly in today’s technology marketplace, where it is imperative that growing technology companies increase their value by holding multiple patents.
